Here are my top 5 tips for breaking into the UK indie games industry (With a prize at the end!!):
1. Show off your skills:
Put together a portfolio that shows off your best work. Whether you're a whiz at programming, a master of design, or a wizard of audio, make sure your portfolio showcases your talents. But, only show it when asked!
2. Make connections:
Get out there and mingle! Attend events, join online communities, and connect with industry pros on social media. Building relationships is key to getting your foot in the door. Almost everyone I know, gets work via contacts!
3. Love what you do:
Employers want to see that you're passionate about games and that you're willing to go the extra mile. Take on side projects, volunteer at game jams, or even create your own indie game! (That last one’s my personal fav)
4. Stay in the loop:
Keep up with the latest trends in the industry. Read industry news, learn about new technologies and platforms, and stay up-to-date on the latest games and trends. It’s so impressive to talk with someone with clear knowledge and passion.
5. Keep learning:
The games industry is constantly changing, so it's important to stay flexible and willing to learn new skills. Take courses, attend workshops, and be open to constructive feedback.
Breaking into the indie games industry in the UK can be a challenge, but with these tips, you'll be well on your way to success.
